Uika is a word from the indigenous Kambeba language (Brazil) and means "a border inhabitant, who lives in a place where you can see both worlds, but looks towards the unknown".

KAMY LARA

Kamy Lara is an Angolan filmmaker and producer with over 15 years of experience in the audiovisual sector. Throughout her career, she has worked in various roles, including cinematography, first assistant director, and editing, contributing to some of the most significant Angolan films of her generation.

Among her works, the documentary Beyond My Steps (2019) stands out, having been screened at over 20 international festivals and awarded Best Documentary at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival (USA) and Doc Luanda (Angola).

Her work is recognized for transcending entertainment, offering critical perspectives on political and social issues and fostering essential dialogues about the Angolan reality.

In 2023, she founded Uika Filmes, a production company with a forward-looking vision, dedicated to creating innovative and artistic cinematic works that push aesthetic and narrative boundaries. Uika Filmes focuses on projects that explore the complexity of Angola's culture and politics while collaborating with a new generation of artists to reimagine narratives and propose deeply transformative cinema.
